Unity: The church factor

A strong church is defined as the unification of all members of the body having opportunity to develop their individual spiritual gift(s). As a member of the body of Christ (church), to qualify for a glorious service or render any service to God requires unity with other members. Unity therefore becomes an essential factor for Christian service. Because there's only one recognized body (the universal church) and one head, Jesus. And really there is an inheritance for the saints in the light (Colossians 1:12). However, the only condition for this inheritance to be obtained is when the saints are in the light and not in darkness. Disunity is an epitome of darkness! Satan has launched an attack against the church and has successfully caused division in the body of Christ. The enemy has perfected his evil work disuniting us. Demons are jealous of God's heritage in Christian's life. So, they oppose the church and anything of God. If God will open our eyes to see how much these demons hate us, we will not allow disunity among us.

Jesus rebuked the Pharisees who supposedly ought to be custodian of law but rather they were found breaking the law and living in hypocrisy. Instead of repenting of their sins and changing their evil ways, the Pharisees were seriously after Jesus seeking how they will trap him through his words. They claimed to be spiritual leaders and rulers of the people of God, yet, they detested Jesus who was approved and sent by God. Despite undeniable evidences that Jesus was truly from God, they hated him with passion (Luke 11:53-54). In the same manner, there are ministers of the gospel who cannot see eye to eye with one another. It grow so worse that they dare not sit beside each other. Unfortunately, we dwell so much on our differences that we often forget that we are members of one body going to the same heaven. And if here on earth we can't live together what will happen when we eventually get to heaven. Sadly, if we continue this way, we wouldn't be able to defeat our common enemy who has perpetrated and he's still perpetrating evil in our midst. Several satanic yokes persists because of the putting forth of the finger (Isaiah 58:9). And why don't we stop allowing Satan and his host to take advantage of our willful disobedience to the commandment of God in Ephesians 4:1-6. It's obvious that humility, love, and submission are wanting and pride has played a great role in dividing us.

The church that supposed to be a body has been fragmented and consequently cannot stand as a whole. Hatred, suspicion, bitterness, resentment, malice, envy, jealousy, secret fear, insecurity, animosity, backbiting, gossip, holier than thou attitude, inferiority and superiority complex (pride) and so on has shattered us. I wonder why the church is so disjointed and disunited! Jesus the head of the church stands aloof watching because of the disjointedness of His body. He is not a monster so He cannot be head over many bodies. He is supposed to be the head over a single body. And that's why Jesus responded the Pharisees who believed that He was casting out demons by Beelzebub that "A kingdom that is divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand" (Matthew 12:25). It's a spiritual principle that Jesus made them to realize because if diseases and infirmities are believed to be caused by demons, casting out demons by the powers that caused it will be working or fighting against oneself. We are members of one body, but at the back we speak evil against one another, stab each other at the back (backbiting). And this empowers the enemy to gain access to do more harm in our midst. We hardly pray and intercede for one another but busy ourselves with the ministry of criticism and fault finding. We are quick at judging other ministries and churches. No true love, care, concern and consideration for one another. Everyone is self-centered and self-conceited. However, God is not going to change His mind regarding the church in this generation and Jesus will not be the head over a segregated, fragmented, disjointed and disunited body. He is coming for a glorious church without spot and wrinkle. And we can play our part in securing that glorious church now! Because there's only one heaven with no denominational tag. It's interdenominational, and it is the church of the called out, redeemed and blood washed. 

Though we cannot deny the fact that there are wolves among the sheep. Agents of darkness who have transformed  themselves into the ministers of the gospel even with big and large congregation. Instead of complaining and talking endlessly about them, we need to pray for them. We are to intercede particularly because of the sincerely ignorant souls they are leading to hell fire. There's a lot of evil going on in our world and it is more terrible when its happening in the church. But the bible has this record in the book of Daniel when God revealed to Daniel the situation at the end of the world. In Daniel 12:10, "Many shall be purified, made white, and refined, but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand."  It was predicted and we are in that season right now. As we have the wicked doing wickedly, God says there are many that will be purified, made white, and refined. This is not an overstatement, this is the bible and what will happen if and when we bring down the hand of God on behalf of the church.

There is only one place where God commands blessing, it is in the place of unity. According to Psalm 133, though a popular and commonly referenced chapter of the bible on unity, it is loaded and it contains the healing pills for the body of Christ. Real spiritual blessing abounds where there is unity. Individuals and churches may increase in material and financial blessings, notwithstanding, the richness of blessing that God wants to give abounds where unity is found. God dwells where there is love and unity. So, it implies that there will be no real blessing or life where there's disunity though there may be superficial ones. The bible says, "For there the Lord commanded blessings and life forevermore. Real blessings descend, then life follows! It is heaven's blessing. It is like the dew of Hermon descending upon the mountain of Zion; that means it comes directly from above, it's from God, not man made and it flows down from the pulpit to the pew, leadership to the follower-ship, everyone partakes of it. It is as the oil that runs down from the edge of Aron's garment, it has to flow down to the people. Life forever abounds, no death wherever God's blessing is but unity is a precursor of this blessing. It therefore infers that where there is unity, there is life both physical and spiritual.

Deborah sang and made beautiful remarks about the contributions of men and women who conquered the Midianites. In Judges 5:15, 18 and 24-27, she narrated in detail the involvement and the role played by the tribes of Israel. In Judges 5:2 &9 she noted that the people willingly offered themselves. Barak went, Deborah followed, and the sons of Naphtali and Zebulum were the valiant men who fought the battle of the Lord with Barak (Judges 4:6).  The significant role of Jael Heber's wife was remarkable. Despite the fact that Sisera had 900 chariots of iron and the Midianites had continuously suppressed, oppressed and tormented the Israelites  for 20 years, yet, God wrought great deliverance for them from their captivity though they had no single chariot of iron. In Judges 4:23-24, the bible says, "So on that day God subdued Jabin king of Canaan in the presence of the children of Israel. And the hand of the children of Israel grew stronger and stronger against Jabin king of Canaan, until they had destroyed Jabin king of Canaan." There is strength in unity! It was not ordinarily by their power that they subdued their enemy and his kingdom that was impossible for them to conquer, but it was because God was involved in their battle. God ordered it, they obeyed, acted promptly and were united. So, they discomfited and defeated their enemy. God came down and helped them subdued Jabin (the dominant factor) all because of their unity.

To defeat our enemy (Satan) and halt all the activities of his agents deployed against the church, unity is an essential factor. To rebel against evil and demand for justice, there's need for unity. There are hesitant powers who have vowed not to go just like the Canaanites who determined to dwell in the land with the children of Israel (Judges 1:27) but it will take unified effort to route them. Unity is really a major necessity to bring down the hand of God to fight for the church and invade the host of darkness (spiritual Midianites) who spoil and destroy us. It  will also be needed to deal with the evil powers that have been doing what they please against the church, they saw the broken edge and they came because we are not truly united as a body. More importantly, unity is highly recommended for congregational repentance. Before Achan was singled out when he committed sin in taking the accursed things, God addressed the entire nation as a sinner (Joshua 7:11&13). God told Joshua "There is an accursed thing in your midst, O Israel; you cannot stand before the enemy until you take away the accursed thing from among you." Indeed the whole nation was affected by the sin of Achan. Sin is a plague that has capacity to destroy wherever it is found, its size or magnitude notwithstanding. Sin offers pleasure that does not last to Achan but later brought judgment on a whole nation. So, in unity we'll repent of the sins of the church, the sins of bitterness, envy, resentment, silent rivalry, jealousy, competition which are evil and have defiled us (Hebrews 12:15).

The man Jesus-His message

The prophet that has a dream, let him tell a dream; And he who has My word, let him speak My word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat? says the LORD. Is not my word like a "fire"? says the LORD. And like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces? Jeremiah 23:28-29.

Jesus came with the message of repentance to reconcile man back to God. He was sent primarily to bridge the gap between God and man, and to restore the relationship that formerly existed between  God and man. The theme of His message to the young ruler -Nicodemus was Ye must be born again. To the old or young, rich or poor, literate or illiterate, His message did not change. Seek ye first the kingdom of God and all other things shall be added unto you (Matthew 6:33). Even after his resurrection, the disciples on the way to Emmaus said "did not our heart burn within us as he speaks to us." They referred to the words of Jesus as fire that burns (Luke 24:32). Indeed the word of God is like fire that burns (Jeremiah 23:29). A single focused John the Baptist who was also the fore runner of Jesus declared the word of salvation to those who came to him in the wilderness. His words were like hammer breaking the hard hearted Jews and all those who sought after him. He preached a stern message on repentance and he wasn't apologetic at all. According to Matthew's account in the book of Matthew chapter 2 verse 2, "and saying repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand"  Despite his seemingly hard singular message on repentance, Jerusalem, all Judea, and all the regions around the Jordan went out to him. He had nothing palatable to offer them, yet they thronged him.  His intent was to do what he was sent to do, to prepare the people for their coming Messiah. In verse 7-12 of the same text, when he saw the many of the Pharisees and the Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, "Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? He did not change his message because of the Pharisees and the Sadducees, rather his tenacity increased and he preached repentance to them also.

In Colossians 1:18, Paul the Apostle preached Jesus Christ. Paul talked about his efforts and exploits to reveal Jesus. His central theme was Jesus and Him crucified (1 Corinthians 2:2 &4-5).  He further committed the preaching of Christ to faithful ministers like Ephraphras (Colossians 1:17). He enjoined Timothy, his son in the Lord, to preach the word because we are already in the time spoken about by Paul the Apostle in 2 Timothy 4:2-3. The desire of the Apostles was to perfect what was lacking in the believers and not just to be chatting away (1Tessalonians 3:10). Here is Paul the Apostle laying the precedence to follow. He told the Corinthian church in 2 Corinthians 2:12 &14 how he received from God and taught. The real essence of the word of God outlined in 2 Timothy 3:16-17 and Hebrews 4:12 shows what the word we hear intends to achieve and this must be the goal (purpose) for preaching. The source of life is the word of God and nobody can do without it (Deuteronomy 8:3).

On the contrary, many ministers have turned the pulpits (sacred place) to discussion table on issues not relevant to the kingdom of God. Unfortunately, many members of the congregation are fed with chaff and their souls are famished because there are few ministers of the word. And that's why God spoke through his servant the prophet in Jeremiah 23:28-29, "The prophets who has a dream, let him tell a dream; And he who has My word, let him speak My word faithfully, What is the chaff to the wheat? "says the LORD, Is not my word like a fire?" To be a man of God, you must be a man of the word of God. But the church is now confronted  with a serious problem as there are many scribes than teachers (Mark 1:22). It is what we give that we'll get. An unprepared, unlearned minister cannot give what he doesn't have to his congregation. You cannot expect the congregation to outgrow you, except you expect them to avail themselves opportunity of enriching their souls through the ministry of other servants of God. And this is a serious matter because we are here talking about the undying souls of men and the need to prepare and furnish them for the soon appearing of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. There is already a problem and attending danger (heart of thorns) because for many, the word is choked and does not bring fruit to maturity due to cares of life, riches and pleasures (Mark4:18-19, Luke 8:7 &14). But a bigger problem ensues when the right word is not available or sown into a ready heart (fertile land). According to Luke 8:8 &15, there are those who are seriously yearning for the truth, but trouble comes when they are denied because the minister of the word is not prepared to give them the needed message. Hence, souls of the people are impoverished because the letter kills but the Spirit gives life.

Despite God's strict injunction in Deuteronomy chapter 12 verse 32 that no on should add or subtract from the commandments of God, messages and sermons have been twisted to suit the purpose of some so called ministers nowadays. Many tell lies, exaggerate and vaunt themselves just to make their preaching appealing to their hearers. They devote quality time to telling irrelevant stories just to secure attention and trust of their listeners. Their priority is not to give the word of life, but they are basically entertainers (Jeremiah 48:10). Some engage in evil and despise holy things, these are enemies of the cross of Christ. They encourage sins of all forms and shade such as seductive dressings and sexual perversion among members  as they see nothing wrong with it. No wonder there is no inspiration, no ministration, and no life coming from the pulpit whenever they preach. Some are into teaching of the commandment of men. Paul the Apostle warned Titus against such in Titus 1:14 "not giving heed to Jewish fables and commandments of men who turn from the truth." There are also those who are fond of exalting and preaching themselves, recounting their past achievements and exploits in the kingdom of God. They have failed to realize that it is not good to build on the old moves- of God. Just like Watchman Nee's saying-A man whose yesterday is like today lacks the sense of God's timing.

There is a great contrast between the messages of Jesus and most of our messages today. And it seems we have failed to realize that we are fighting an enraged enemy who is not taking things lightly with anyone (Revelation 12:17). If the few hours people stay in the church cannot be maximally utilized to fill them with the word of God needed to combat the forces of darkness and the evil world that wants to damn their soul, then there is problem. And those ministers who focus the attention of people on themselves and not on Jesus ought to know that it is just a waste of time because nothing worthwhile will come out of it. Jesus said, "And I if I be lifted up from the earth will draw all men unto me." It could literarily mean that after His ascension, His death and resurrection will be the basics of our salvation and through which many will have hope, believe on His and receive Him. At the same time, it could also mean that whenever and wherever Jesus is preached and exalted, many will be drawn to Him. God is beholding our world with rage and He is ready to unleash His wrath, Jesus is mourning and interceding for the church, but when would the ministers of the gospel change their erroneous teachings and centre their message on Jesus. When will they begin to prepare the church for the imminent coming of her Lord and Saviour. When would the pulpits acknowledge the lordship of Jesus Christ and preach Him and Him alone? 

When Jesus sent out the 12 disciples in Luke 9:1-5, He instructed them not to go with money, bag or food. Also, He sent out the 70 in Luke 10:1-4 and gave similar instruction. They were to go with no money, bag or food, the same instruction was given to two different sets of people but why? The reason is because of the possibility of their attention to shifted away from their assignment and be focused on material things. They have a single pursuit; they were sent out to preach the gospel and nothing else. They were not to be diverted from their original purpose. Jesus made them realize that the labourer is worthy of his wages (Luke 10:7) signifying that ministers of God deserve to be rewarded with monetary gifts and blessings. Paul the Apostle also affirmed this in his letter to the Corinthian church that if he ministered to them in the Spirt, it is not a sin for him to reap material thing, however, he exercised caution that in no instance should this liberty of his affect or put a blemish on the gospel he preaches (1Corinthians 9:12-15). This is a balanced truth! According to Deuteronomy 33:18-19, Zebulum and Issachar were praised and blessed because they were to reveal to the people the demands of God (call the people to mountain). Not physical but spiritual, they were to launch the people into deep experiences with God. They were to lead them to offer sacrifices of righteousness to God and in turn partake of the abundance of the seas and hidden treasures in the sand (great material blessings).

Even in the Old Testament, God repeatedly informed the priests and Levites that He the Almighty God is their portion and their inheritance ( Deuteronomy 18:2 & 5, Joshua 13:33, 18:19). However, He instructed the children of Israel to give to the priests and Levites (Deuteronomy 12:19). The same instruction was repeated in chapter 14 verse 27 so that the priests and the Levites can focus on their duty and service to God and not be busy search for the money. It is a normal and proper thing and it is expected of every child of God to give to the work of God and more importantly to the ministers of God. Hence, the ministers of God need not centre their messages on money always. And there should not be deceit, manipulations, witchcrafy (cunning craftiness) in the name prophesies and revelation to dupe, and drain  money out of the purses of the people. Making financial demands on the people at the expense of their soul is dangerous and will incur the wrath of God. Many gullible souls in dire  and desperate need for solutions to life's problems and challenges have fallen prey to these fake ministers who always demand for money (Philippians 3:19). And being innocent, often consent to the demands and dictates of these so called ministers of God who are out there to trick and exploit people. Most of those affected often did not make effort to know or find out about these fake ministers of God before giving them their money and properties. Unfortunately, as a result of their  unpleasant encounters and experiences, they have become hardened even against the true gospel. More harm is done than good by these enemies of the cross!

Yet, there are sincere and true seekers today who are really tired of the fun-fare, jokes, bedroom talks, chatting, and unbecoming words that cannot redeem soul uttered by ministers of God who have turned their pulpits to another thing entirely. Many are truly yearning to know God and have eternal life (John 17:3). The hearts of men are longing and desirous to be fed with the word of life. The undying souls are bored and tired of philosophy, motivational messages, and teachings. John the Baptist preached repentance (Mark 1:4-5), Jesus Christ preached repentance (Mark 1:14-15), and the disciples also preached repentance (Mark 6:12). Man of God, if I may ask what are you preaching?

The man Jesus-His ministry

But you have not so learned Christ Ephesians 4:20

Jesus patterned His ministry after the father. While He was here on earth, He did nothing except what the father instructed Him to do. He had no private agenda. Jesus wholly surrendered His will and life to carry out His divine assignment as He constantly sought to please the father and received directives from Him. There was much resemblance between Him and the father because He came from Him and did all His biddings (John 5:19, 6:38 and 14:10). Moses in the Old Testament also communed with God constantly to receive instruction on how to lead the children of Israel (Psalm 103:7). Moses sincere request in Exodus chapter 33 verse 13 was to know the ways of God and eventually God granted his request and he was able to see the glory of God (verse 22) although the Israelites only saw His acts. Similarly, Paul the Apostle wrote about his sole dependence on God who made him a minister of the gospel (2 Corinthians 3:4-6). And we could see that his ministry was patterned after Jesus. No wonder he said, "imitate me (follow me), just as I also imitate (follow) Christ (1 Corinthians 11:1)." God 'has not created anyone who will be independent of Him. Hence, it is therefore necessary to wait on their master to receive instruction on how to do the ministry work acceptably, effectively and efficiently. This is where the ministry begins. Heavenly pattern is the secret for any successful ministry. And that's why Jesus said in the gospel according John chapter 6 verse 40, "A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher."

In addition, personal communication and intimate relationship with Jesus is a necessary requisite for an enduring ministry. Your life comes first before any service. There is a great life that comes through the understanding of the scriptures (John 1:4 & 5:40). Oftentimes, it is only those who come to God and loves Him that partakes of it. It is in the place of communion that God gives direction, guidance and specific instructions on how, what where and when the work is to be done. Remember, it is in the place of deep devotion and communion with the trinity that you are built and get substance. The scriptures says, "For there is a spirit in man but the inspiration of the almighty gives him understanding." If you don't have substance, you don't have status. Your true status is valued by the spiritual substance you possess. And it is only those who don't have substance that will be fighting for the pulpit or position. Quite unfortunately, many are venturing into God's work without any personal relationship with the God of the work. It will be absolutely unnecessary and of no use to be involved in any ministerial work without relationship with God because such service will be irrelevant and unacceptable. It really sounds absurd and it's even unthinkable that someone can exerts his energy and work for an individual or an organization without prior interview, induction training, orientation and so on. Or is it possible to be a staff of an organization without ever meeting or contacting the human resources of the same institution, cooperation or organization? That's exactly what happens when some who claim to have ministry and working for God rarely or don't know God at all. When the work of God takes over our relationship with God there is danger, for our true spiritual strength comes from Him.

Aside from the above mentioned requisites for ministry, availability of the vessel to used is highly essential. The book of 1 Chronicles chapter 29 verse 5 gives an account of the preparation for the building of the temple. Alongside the material resources required for the building were human resources. For any tangible work to be done, both the material and the human resources needed must be readily available. Because God always takes special interest in the life of anyone He intends to use. And He is so concerned about every detail about him even to his garment. Why is God so particular about garment for ministry?  It is because you are easily identified by what you put on. Moses had to ensure that it was done exactly according to specification (Exodus 39:1, 22-31, 41-43). The garment for ministry must be holy (Exodus 28:2, 40:13). There is need for proper clothing before anointing as we see that the instruction given in Exodus 40 verse 13 precede the one in verse 15. Then the  glory of God descended after everything was done accordingly (the priests were properly dressed and were anointed). According to Exodus 40:34-35, "Then the clouds covered the terbanacle of meeting, and the glory of the LORD filled the terbanacle. And Moses was not able to enter the terbanacle of meeting, because the cloud rested above it, and the glory of the Lord filled the terbanacle." Even Moses couldn't enter because the glory of God has filled the terbanacle. All remains artificial until when the glory of God descends! Jesus depicted holiness throughout His three year period of ministry. He was never contaminated by sin (His spiritual garment was always clean). Therefore, everything and anything that defiles must be removed (1 Corinthians 3:17, Proverbs 22: 11). Our only hope of glory is the indwelling Christ (Colossians 1:27) who will purge us from all uncleanness and baptize us with His power. Similar event occurred in 1 King chapter 8 verse 6 and verses10-11 when Solomon assembled the people and ordered that the ark be brought to its place, the priests cannot ministered because of the glory of God that came down. To experience this constantly, we must heed that express command in Ecclesiastes chapter 9 verse 8,"Let your garment be white, And your head lack no oil (anointing)."

Jesus had a unique ministry because He carried an anointing without measure ( John 3:35, Mark 7:37). Remember the incidence in John chapter 18 verses 6 and 8, "Now when he said to them, I am He" they drew back and fell to the ground. Jesus answered, "I have told you that I am He, Therefore if you seek Me, let these go their way."  Isaiah 41:4, 43:13 and 48:12 are repeated instances of the statement I am He and it depicted the omnipotence of God. The power demonstrated by Jesus was real, genuine and it wasn't a mere shadow of making noise. Jesus method of operation in ministry was through the demonstration of kingdom power and display of divine authority (Luke 6:17-19). His ministry was characterized by signs and wonders. But these days, many lack unction, utterance and anointing to minister, yet, they patch it up with grammar and psychology. The spiritual blindness of  some ministers is evident (Isaiah 29:10). Some demonstrate fake spiritual gifts without life of holiness and this can be very deceptive. Lives of people are in danger when miracles, signs and wonders emanate from ministries that have no relationship with Jesus. However, God longs to share His power with us but not His glory. But there must be purification and thorough cleansing before service. Besides, Jesus method of operation was through prayer. He chose His disciples after He had prayed and He would do nothing without prayer (Luke 6:12-16). The disciples followed the example of their master and they committed themselves to prayer and teaching of the word (Acts 6:3-4). When it became necessary to choose more people to assist them in the work, even administrative positions in the early church was occupied by people filled with the Holy Spirit. They did not fight for pulpit and there was no rancor or contention amongst them. Similarly, structural organization in the church must be by prayer and the leading of the Holy Spirit, there should be no striving for recognition or for  position.

It is sad to note that Christianity these days has been reduced by the devil to money and anything money can offer. It is no more about passionate desire for souls of men and this underscores the need for extra watchfulness. Demons are on the prowl to wreak havoc in the nations and to do terrible things of great magnitude in the churches. There's terrible perversion going on even in the church of God and if care is not taken terrible judgment of God may ensue. In 2 Corinthians chapter 6 verses 3-10, Paul the Apostle showed us a godly pattern of an acceptable service. And in 1 Corinthians chapter 9 verses 16-18, he recounted how he ministered without charging anything and that everything is supposed to be free. Paul's understanding of Philippians chapter 4 verse 13 is quite different from ours, oftentimes we quote this scripture out of context. Paul was saying that weather any storm and bear anything. That verse talks of divine strength and ability to persist and endure. In verse 12 he said that he has learnt everywhere and in everything to be full and hungry. And just like his master to abound and to be abased. Remember that Jesus also said freely have ye received freely give. Elisha told Gehazi his servant in 2 Kings chapter 5 verse 26, is it time to receive gifts while multitude are heading blindly into hell. Unfortunately, modernity has now taken over the church of God and everything is about materialism (Jeremiah 6:16, Galatians 5:7-9). The motive of many for ministry is impure. Some are out merchandising the gift of God and like Balaam expecting gains of divination (Numbers 23:17) because those patronizing them are ready with diviner's fees in their hands (Numbers 22:7). In their way of thinking and operating a ministry, nothing is free. Others are those who are desperate for God 's power without sincere intention like Simon the sorcerer who said "Give me this power also, that anyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.

In this generation, the devil has raised many false prophets and ministers (2 Corinthians 11:13-15). The trickery of men, cunning craftiness and deceitful plotting that ensnares are everywhere these days (Ephesians 4:14). The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ has been bastardized by these crooks, bunch of liars, who are fond of saying the Lord says when the Lord is actually saying nothing. We have a lot on our hands because the rate at which these fake ministers and ministries are now multiplying is alarming. Henceforth, everyone needs to take heed on how he builds on the foundation laid by Jesus because everyone's work will be tested by fire.(1 Corinthians 3:12-15). Remember, the number assignment of believer is to fight a good fight to make heaven and every other thing comes after, ministry or no ministry. Other evil acts so rampart now in these strange ministries are sexual immorality of all kind and sorcery. This two are intricately linked together because anywhere there's witchcraft or sorcery there will be every form of immorality (sodomy, lesbianism, polygamy, adultery, lust, fantasy, masturbation and the likes (Exodus 34:13-16). There is strong correlation between idolatry (witchcraft, sorcery, occultism etc.) and whoredom (immorality). Whenever God speaks of harlotry, it's always perceived as both spiritual and physical (Jeremiah 23:10-11). To worsen it all is the sin of pride. There's need to take caution against boasting and pride because it destroys work and walk with God. John the Baptist told those who came to him in John 3:27 that "A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from above." So, if all spiritual giftings we claim to have is given from heaven, why boasting. Paul the Apostles knew the gravity of his ministerial calling and the danger of pride, he said that he disciplined his body and bring it to subjection lest when he has preached to others, he should become disqualified (1 Corinthians 9:27). Human strength (ability) will fail and that's why nothing tangible can be achieved by human effort (Psalm 147:10). In 2 Samuel 6:1-17, Uzza's sudden death was as a result of his unguided zeal and presumption (human tendencies). He hastily performed the duty of the priests as he tried to keep the ark from falling when the oxen stumbled.

The Man Jesus-His Mission

Jesus read from the book of Isaiah chapter 61:1-3, He quoted this scripture in the hearing of the people in the synagogue at the onset of His earthly ministry (Luke 4:18-19) though the people did not have a full understanding of all He was sent to do, nevertheless, He told them His mission on earth. To preach the gospel, to teach, to cast out devils, deliver the oppressed, heal the sick, to train the disciples and commission them (Mark 1:21-23, 32-34, 37-38, 3:14-15). His mission on earth was so clear to Him and apparently He didn't lose focus of His mission. He shunned away every undue publicity but faced His major assignment squarely (Mark 2:13,17). Jesus never focused on people's opinion about His personality or deity. He, however, concentrated on His mission. If Jesus lost the sense of His mission, what would have been the hope of this world. It would have been terribly disastrous for human race, but He our perfect example tenaciously followed His mission on earth and would not be dissuaded by anyone who is merely ambitious or vague.

The disciples and many of His followers were obviously ignorant of His mission through He repeatedly and clearly stated it. And His mission is simply to seek and save them that were lost. Despite his declarations, teachings and pronouncements, notwithstanding, they had little or no understanding of His personality-who He was and what He came to do (His mission). Even the disciples lacked clarity of their master's mandate. And that's why He posed a question to them and asked, "Who do men say that the Son of man is?" Indeed they misconceived and misrepresented Him. A wrong view and belief about Jesus often affects the understanding of His personality and His mission. But under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, Peter declared that Jesus is Christ. However, Jesus rebuked Peter and called him Satan because he wanted to twist His mission by forbidding Jesus to suffer and die for human kind (Mark 8:33). To culminate His assignment on earth, the man Jesus had to die. Though He was full of glory and majesty, He relinquished it and preferred to die in order to complete His mission on earth. He fulfilled prophesy (one must die for others to be released John 11:50-52). A man on mission, the man Jesus, He became a ransom for the sins of the world. He laid down His life and paid the utmost price, full and free for the redemption of mankind. The man Jesus, though everything was created through Him and for Him, He chose to give His life, therefore, it pleased the father that in Him all the fullness should dwell and that in all things He may have the preeminence (Colossians 1:14-19).

Apostle Paul was another man who embraced and pursued his divine mission. He would not exchange it with anything. He has a clear mandate and counted all his attainment  and achievements as dung. After his unusual encounter with the Lord on his way to Damascus, everything about him changed. He recounted and affirmed it severally in his epistles to the churches and in the book of the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 20:19-24, 26:19-20, Romans 15:15-16, 1 Corinthians 1:1, Galatians 1:1, Philippians 3:7 and so on). He was not disobedient to the heavenly vision but carried it out explicitly. On the contrary, the disciples who followed Jesus during His earthly ministry and received clear instruction from the Lord, after Jesus ascension changed their mission. They probably reasoned among themselves that the miracle man who used to feed thousands of people with five barley loaves and two small fish has gone, and thought of how to move on in life and provide for themselves. So, the disciples under the leadership of Peter embarked on their own mission which was out-rightly opposite what the Lord and Master mandated them before His departure. The master's instruction in the book of Matthew 20:18-20 was "go ye into all the world to preach the gospel" but Peter led the disciples to go a fishing. They went anyway but not to preach the gospel.

So, Jesus had to come again and remind him about the original mission.  After He has satisfied the sincere passionate desire of Peter, He provided bread and a fish on the coals of fire for them. Not only did He provide a ready-made meal for them but He directed them to where the fishes were. When Peter realized that it was Jesus, he jumped into the sea because he saw his nakedness and nothingness, his effort to live the life that has not been ordained for him. Then, after meeting all the needs of this self-centered, ambitious, and rebel leader, Jesus confronted and challenged him with the question, "Do you love me more than these? In the gospel according to John chapter 21 verses 15-17, "So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of Jonah, do you love me more than these?" He said to him,"Yes, Lord; You know that I love you." He said to him, "Feed  my lambs." He said to him again a second time, "Simon, son of Jonah, do you love me? He said to him ,  Yes Lord; You know that I love you." He said to him, "Tend  my sheep." He said to him the third time, "Simon, son of Jonah , do you love me?" Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, "Do you love me?" And he said to Him, "Lord , You know all things; You know that I love You." Jesus said to him, "Feed my sheep.

It was deliberate that Jesus repeatedly asked the same question three times, He did this intentionally to be sure that Peter fully understood the import of the discourse. Peter, are you sure, do you really mean it that you love me more than "these" (a fish on the fire and many more in the net)? Peter was grieved because the Master asked him thrice, but the Master was doing the right thing. Peter was broken and affirmatively responded "Lord thou knowest."  Jesus was invariably saying to Peter that as you can see, for all these (Luke 12:30) that you desire to be laboring for, I have effortlessly set a table for you, here is bread, a fish on the coals of fire and many more in the net, so what else. This is just for you to know that I can supply your needs. Oh! His perspective changed, his approach to the work of the Master also changed. Then, Jesus told him, feed my lambs (the young converts), feed my sheep (matured believers) and tend my sheep (care for them). Now, this is your mission-the sheep and the lamb, not "these" (bread, fish on the fire and those in the sea that you longed to catch). To be convinced of true love and devotion to Jesus is not a mere lip declaration, it must be from the heart. And it is when our mission is only to love God supremely can the lamb and the sheep be committed to our care. Jesus is asking the same question now and until we answer Him from a heart void of hypocrisy, we may be wasting His grace, gifts (endowment) and blessings on earthly, useless and valueless things. And it will be a disaster if "these" is the essence of our mission or our main pursuit.

Thank God for after encountering the Lord, the same Peter who once led the rest disciples in a wrong direction, fully assume his duty as Jesus commanded him to feed the sheep and the lambs. In the book of the Acts of the Apostles, Peter's exploits were remarkable and this could simply be attributed to the visitation by his master. His orientation about his mission and pursuit in life changed because the Lord and Master redirected him. He eventually became the pillar as foretold by Jesus. He fulfilled his purpose on earth (Acts 11:13-14), he preached to the Jews and the gentiles (Acts 2:14-39, 3:12-19), he led the other apostles (he was their able spokesman) Acts 1:15-26, and if not for the mercy of God that made Jesus to visit him, he would have missed it. We believers in this generation need a fresh visitation of the Saviour so that the original mission will not be missed.

Unfortunately, many are having a beclouded view of what their mission on earth really is. There's a lot of diversion and perversion going on, yet, the mission and mandate of Jesus for the church has not change. When our mission is no more to seek and save the lost, we have missed it. When activities, programs and special events that doesn't lead souls to heaven takes over, we have missed it. When concentration is on raising structures and building ego empires, competition in amassing wealth and properties at the expense of souls for which Christ died, there's serious problem. The mission of many have been twisted by Satan and they are unaware, little did they know that that are treading and leading others on dangerous path. To be candid, we need to ask ourselves this pertinent question and be very sincere with ourselves: What is the essence of all that I am doing? Is it out of pure love for God, inspired by the Holy Spirit, or is it initiated by the flesh (self). Is it for gaining recognition, getting affluence, influence or position?   

The man Jesus

Jesus, a man approved by God with signs and wonders but with a humble beginning. Circumstances  surrounding His birth were controversial and this made the people and the spiritual leaders in His days to disbelieve Him. They would have probably believed Him as their Messiah if He had been born into a royal family, or come in a big and magnificent way that will make everyone to know that indeed their king has arrived. They never expected their Messiah to be born in a manger. They never also expected that He would be born by insignificant parents. His parents were common, unpopular and unrecognized people (His mother-an ordinary young woman in Israel, and His supposed father was a mere carpenter). They didn't know the paradox of life that "the way up is the way down." They doubted and disagree with His Messiahship. They wouldn't have thought that the King of kings and the Lord of lords will come from such a background. Their high mindedness would never allow them to approve of Him.

Besides, because His descent was know to the Jews (Matthew 13:55-56, John 6:42), He was never accorded any regard due Him as King, Lord and Messiah, neither was He respected, honored, or  revered by the chief priests and the rulers. But His followers and multitude whenever they see the  miracles He performed wondered and glorified God (Matthew 9:8, 8:27). Even His triumphant entry into Jerusalem was hailed by children, women and the common people in the land (Matthew 21:15). According to verse 15, the chief priests and scribes were indignant, so, we can easily conclude that these indignant folks were not among those shouting and jubilating. For Jesus to call Himself the son of God and claim to come from heaven worsen the situation. He became a target of constant attack and opposition. They resisted Him, spoke harshly against Him and threw stone at Him, and many times, He just walked away in their midst (John 5:18, 7:1, 8:59, 10:31, 10:39). Elijah, on the other hand was a man also with no acclaimed descent who just surfaced and shook the whole land of Israel. His introduction was very interesting as the bible records it in 1 King chapter 17 verse 1, "And Elijah the Tishbite, of the inhabitant of Gilead, said to Ahab, "As the LORD God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall be no rain these years except at my word," That was all that was know about him, Elijah the Tishbite, of the inhabitant of Gilead. Everything was okay with him as much as his title was just a prophet or a servant of God.  If Jesus had called himself a prophet like Elijah there wouldn't have been any problem. But for Him to call himself the Son of God, Ah! Son of God, how dare you call yourself son of God and even claim to have been before Abraham, no wonder they derided Him and wanted to stone Him (John 8:56-59). Unfortunately, these ignorant people never take out time to pray the prayer of Job in Job chapter 6 verse24. 

The contention continued until the time of His death. During His crucifixion, they mocked Him and insisted that the label with and inscription that He was the king of the Jews should be removed. So, they told Pilate that He (Jesus) said that He was the king of the Jews, this they said because they didn't acknowledge Him as their king. In John chapter 19 verse 21, "Therefore the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, Do not write, The King of the Jews, but, "He said. "I am the King of the Jews." Yet, this same Jesus is the King of kings and the Lord of lords. Jesus would not dispute with them about His title because He knew who He was. But in Acts 2:36, on the day of Pentecost, Peter under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, drunk but not with wine but really intoxicated (full of the Spirit) declared to them what the Jews, the chief priests and other sects wouldn't want to hear. " Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that  God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified both Lord and Christ." At another time, he told them that though they have acted foolishly and ignorantly by killing Jesus, now they need to repent (Act 3:17 &19). He reiterated it again in the midst of the councils of the elders in Act 4:10-12. There was a manifest glory that compelled even the disciples to believe on their master (John 2:11, Matthew 17:1-3). We are not talking of abstract but reality as John the beloved remarked in I John 1:1, 3, they saw, they heard and they believed. Divine approval doesn't manifest ins signs and wonders alone but in unction and utterance.

Yet, He instructed His followers not to reveal His true identity (Matthew 17:8-9). He never saw Himself special but He was truly humble. God became man, Jesus, found in the likeness of man, yet, so humble and meek (Philippians 2:5-11). He taught His disciples humility (Matthew 20:26-27) again and again (Matthew 23:11). His way of life was characterized by exceptional humility. After healing people, He will instruct them to tell no one (Luke 5:14). The man Jesus, our Savior, Lord and Master  cannot be identified and recognized among His disciples because they all looked alike. in fact, it will take a kiss from Judas Iscariot to reveal and differentiate Him from the rest of His disciples. The scripture in Acts of the Apostles chapter I verse16b says.......Judas became a guide to those who arrested Jesus. This is indeed a great challenge to the followers of Jesus who were in no way similar to their leader. It will be utterly inconsistent for us as Christians (little Christ) to live unlike our master and Lord. No wonder Paul the Apostle in his letter to the Romans exhorted them to be humble (Romans 12:16). 

Although there are few exceptional cases when Jesus acted in rage. Whenever He wanted to challenge the Pharisees, scribes, rulers and the elders of their evil practises, the humble Lamb of  God now a fierce Lion, bold and un-daunting. And that's why He is both the Lion and the Lamb. They wondered that though He was not learned but He talked with much authority and power (Luke 4:22, 32, Matthew 7:28-29). The man Jesus, He rebuked evil doers (Luke 11:39-49, Matthew 23:1-33). He was zealous for the things of God (John 2:14-17, Matthew 21: 12-14).  Note that in Matthew chapter 21 verses 14-17 three remarkable things happened. Firstly, after the riddance of the money changers and all those who were selling in the temple, the blind and the lame came to Jesus inside the temple and they received their healing. The spiritually blind and lame will not be healed until the temple (church) is cleansed (purged). Secondly, the children were so excited and thrilled by all that was happening in the temple to the extent that they were crying "Hosanna to the Son of David" and lastly the chief priests and the scribes were indignant. Evidently, they were not part of the congregation that celebrated Jesus because they were really angry, furious and annoyed at everything that happened. In fact, they hated what they were seeing and hearing.  

The man Jesus, He is an embodiment of God's glory and wisdom. He is wisdom personified. No wonder He passionately desires that we seek wisdom. Jesus, the wisdom of God never dwell with folly because the way of folly is pride and arrogance but His habitation is with prudence (Proverbs 8:12). Our perfect example, Jesus, detests pride, it is an evil way (verse 13), and it is against the way of wisdom. But wisdom takes delight in knowledge and He is filled with discretion. Counsel and sound wisdom is of Him. Jesus, the wisdom of God said, "By me kings reign,  And rulers decree justice. By me princes rule, and nobles, All the judges of the earth" (Proverbs 8:15-16). He delights only in those who diligently seek him and He fills the treasure of those who love Him (verses 17&21). He would love those who love Him because love is reciprocal. It's what you give that you'll get. Those who ever made it are covenant keepers and God seekers. True riches, honor and righteousness that cannot be equated with anything are with Him. He says, "My fruit (fruit of wisdom) is better than gold, yea, than fine gold (of this world) And my revenue than choice silver" (verse19). Despite all that Jesus (the wisdom of God) has and wants to offer, yet, many are already on the high mountain (high places of this world) negotiating and bargaining with Satan their eternity in exchange for the vanities of this world!

That's why the psalmist boldly say in Psalms 16 verses 5-6, "O LORD, you are the portion of my inheritance and my cup; You maintain my lot. The lines are fallen to me in pleasant places: I have a good inheritance." Acknowledging the faithfulness of God towards those who love, fear and seek Him, the psalmist also says, "He will  choose our inheritance for us, the excellence of Jacob whom He loves" (Psalm 47:4). There is need for fresh revelation of  the man Jesus like never before because there is a (veil) blanket cast upon the face of the earth by the devil. And with sincerity we need to pray that Jesus will open our understanding that we may comprehend the scriptures as Jesus opened the understanding of the disciples in Luke chapter 24 verse45. Paul warned believers of the heresies going on. In Colossians chapter 2 verse 8, "Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ." No one claims to know God without knowing Jesus. Jesus declared, no one comes to the father except by me. In John 12:46, Jesus said, "I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness." Therefore, no one has any excuse for walking in darkness. 

Vanguards of revival

               Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees Isaiah 35:3

There is always a dynamic move and manifestation of the Holy Spirit in every generation. But men and women, young and old must avail themselves this opportunity, prepare and be readily available to be used of God for revival. The input of man is crucial in revival labour and it is not an overstatement or a gain-say that we need God this hour than ever before. It is highly imperative that God sends His revival fire again in the church! It's now evident that evil abound and many have turned their back against God to new and sublimated patterns of the flesh. Daily occurrences attest to the fact that church is in dire need of revival. We cannot afford to be complacent and that's why prophet Isaiah cried against it and urged for action, "Rise up ye women who are at ease,  hear my voice: you complacent daughters, Give ear to my speech. Tremble, you women who are at ease, Be troubled, you complacent ones: Strip yourselves, make yourselves bare, And gird sackcloth on your waists. Until the Spirit is poured upon us from on high, And the wilderness becomes a fruitful field, and the fruitful field is counted as a forest (Isaiah 32:9, 11. 15).   The church cannot just continue to patch things up and pretend as if nothing is wrong. Indeed, something is seriously wrong! We cannot deceive God with our sensual, carnal, superficial, vague, camouflage, vain and empty worship. If God does not revive us again, this generation is doomed.

Why do we need revival ? We need revival because many are already losing focus and are living as if Jesus will not come again. But He is coming soon! This present church is not ready and fully prepared for rapture. Even Jesus Christ is not happy with His bride (church) who is not anticipating the return of her Lord. Rather the church has busied herself entangling with the world. Yet, God's plan is to get the redeemed and the remnant ready for the appearing of His son Jesus Christ. His intention and agenda for this generation has not changed. In  Isaiah 35:1-2, God aims to restore the glory of the church. For He longs to visit us again and prepare us for the soon appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ. Our King and loving Lord will soon return! Unfortunately, though unpleasant it may sound to some people, but it is certain, this evil world is winding up, and it will soon come to an end.  Signs abound everywhere that we are in the last days, and this dying, lukewarm, and weak generation needs quick resuscitation.

Hence, there is a great task for the church who needs to be awakened from her spiritual sleep and slumber. A default, dry, and weak priesthood cannot stand between man and God. Prophet Isaiah repeatedly said of the church "Awake, put on your strength O Zion,"  it only takes revived people to wake up those who are spiritually asleep or dead. No wonder it will only take an active, sensible, alert and sensitive physician to resuscitate a dying, unresponsive and unconscious patient in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Remember, if Zion was not sleeping God will not urge her to awake. The church is sleeping and recovery of souls from eternal damnation in hell can only be done when the body of Christ is fully revived, alive and quickened by the Holy Spirit. It takes only the revitalized and the revived to gear up and function optimally to bring the issue of men to God. To snatch sinners from Satan is not a child's play, for he will not want to willfully release his captives. It cannot be done casually, so, it is very important at this time to invade the courts of heaven with sincere plea and cry for revival seeing the need to rescue multitude from the valley of decision.

We desperately need God as we yearn for His visitation, true experience of revival and the resurrection power of Jesus to pervade our world and bring us closer to God. Nothing good will happen until God visit His church and our land with revival fire sweeping across the nations, then, we will be equipped, revived, and the lost will be ushered into God's kingdom before the return of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. More so, as a new year approaches, we need the revival fire to come afresh on us, so that we may have genuine passion for His glory and that His power may consume our innermost being just like Paul, "that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings,  being made conformable unto His death" We need God Himself to create in us fresh hunger for righteousness, sincere desire fro personal and corporate revival, and genuine thirst for the manifest glory and power of God in our generation. More than ever before in any generation is a dire need for revival, and a great responsibility is vested on the

church now though with an extremely limited time frame.

God is longing for a kingdom of priests. He is seeking for men and women that will offer acceptable sacrifices, having access to His throne with passionate intercession to enforce His Kingdom and plead for revival. God wants to prepare His saints and raise up the end time army before the final return of Jesus and He is counting on you!  As God expects us to rise up to this end of the world challenge of becoming a vanguard of revival, may we be found worthy of Him. Although there is  a growing consensus, but God doesn't work with multitude of rebels. It does not matter to Him to save with many or few. In 1 Samuel 14:16, "Then Jonathan said to the young man who bore his armour, Come, let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised; it may be that the LORD will work for us,  For nothing restrains the LORD from saving by many or few."  Similarly, it was Nehemiah who received the burden and vision for the rebuilding of the broken wall of Jerusalem. He informed the king, he was favoured, and his requests was granted. Later, he shared the vision and the burden with his brethren, "And I told them of the hand of my God which had been good upon me, and also of the kings word that he had spoken to me, So they said, "Let us rise up and build," then they set their hands to this good work" (Nehemiah 2:18).

However, it is worthy to note that Satan and his agents hate revival and church growth with passion. Satan will do anything and everything possible to stop it. He will even instigate people to attack and oppose it. In the book of Nehemiah chapter 4 verse 10, the enemy of the children of Israel troubled the building of the wall to the extent that the strength of the labourers failed them. There is so much rubbish debris- (physical rubbish to be cleared), attacks from the enemy, assaults, interceptions, intrusions, interruptions, disturbances, distractions (all constitute spiritual rubbish to be cleared) that we are not able to build the wall. The enemies came with their evil schemes  and plot to cause destruction (verse 11) after they failed to cause confusion (verse 8) through their wicked and insightful machinations. However, Nehemiah and his men gave them no attention. Half of the men were engaged with the physical work while the other half were battle ready to fight the enemy who may trouble them.

This is a very goof strategy for achieving divine task. The building strategy remains fighting with one hand, and with the other hand holding the weapon of battle because of demonic interruptions aimed at frustrating the purpose of God. Therefore, the saints must constantly be on guard. We are living in the territory of the enemy and he has the right to challenge anything that is against him. But the only language he understands is violence not appeasement. Jesus has already signaled a warning "watch and pray." The enemy cannot overpower the church for Jesus also assured us that, "I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." The gates of hell cannot and will never prevail for the militant church is rising! Jesus never promised a life without battle but He promised victory all the time, Hallelujah!!! For we are more than conquerors through him that loved us and gave himself for us.

After we have dealt with the outward enemies, we need to take caution not to constitute hindrance by allowing the enemy within to hinder us from achieving divine purpose. Because if Satan can de-robe the church of righteousness, he will have power over her. For personal or cooperate revival, holiness and righteousness must be in place since God doesn't descend in an unholy place. The inward beauty of a pure life is a necessity. God commanded the Israelites to keep their camp holy. To initiate an acceptable service unto God just like Aron's Levitical priesthood, the priesthood must be well dressed and positioned. What God demanded from the people, priests and levities then is what He is still demanding form us today. God specifically instructed Moses concerning the priests, in Exodus chapter 28 verses 1-2, "Now take Aron your brother, and his sons with him, from among the children of Israel, that he may minister to me as priest, Aron and Aron's sons: Nadab, Abihu, Elieazer, and Ithamar. And you shall make holy garment for your brother,  for glory and beauty. The priestly garment must be worn always to do God's service. No ego to be fanned, no self projection, no pride, and every selfish desire and ambition must be removed to be fit for an holy use. So, that we, like the song writer, can boldly declare,

Henceforth may no profane delight

Divide this consecrated soul

Possess it thou who has the right

As Lord and master of the whole

Judgement on the nations

I will punish the world for its evil, and all the wicked for their iniquity; I will halt the arrogance of the proud, And will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible Isaiah 13:11

Whenever a nation fails, it means not only the political but the spiritual leaders have failed before God. Such a nation will experience evil, misfortunes, wrath and sever judgment of God. And it will take the spiritual or the political leader(s) to rise and bring back a backslidden nation to God. However, salvaging such a nation will be the sole responsibility of whoever is awakened, either the spiritual or the political or both of them. Oftentimes, it has been the responsibility of the spiritual leaders. There are instances though where both have made significant impact and jointly restores a nation. For example, Hezekiah (a political leader), decried the lamentable condition of Judah because of the consequences of their sin of idolatry. Their fathers had consulted and sacrificed to other gods and the whole nation in his time have forsaken God. So, in 2 Chronicles chapter 29 verse 5-11, he instructed the spiritual leaders (Levites and the priests) to carry out spiritual cleansing and rededication of the nation back to God which they did. In verses 12-19, they arose, sanctified themselves, removed the rubbish, cleansed the temple, the altar and prepare all the vessels in the temple for holy use. Then, after the work of cleansing was completed, the King restores the true worship of God.

At another instance, during the reign of Ahab,  the entire nation of Israel wandered away from God.  For the bible says in 1 King 21:25, "But there was no one like Ahab who sold himself to do wickedness in the sight of the LORD because Jezebel his wife stirred him up. But Elijah the prophet, their spiritual leader called them to order. During the contest at Mount Carmel, he exhibited the power of  God, and proved to them that the living God deserves their worship. They acknowledged that He is God, bowed and worshipped him. There are lessons to learn from Ahab especially political and secular leaders who have been stirred up to do wickedly because judgment is coming. Daniel on the other hand was both the political and spiritual leader in Babylon, he interpreted Nebuchadnezzar's dream and repeatedly cautioned him, but this heathen king refused to amend his way. Despite Daniel's effort and persuasion, he disregarded the solution that Daniel proffered until he faced his doom, however, he later realized that the most high rules in the kingdom of men (Daniel 4:17, 25, 26, 33, 37).

Many have cursed the earthly king and worst is to curse the king of heaven. Ecclesiastes 10:20 says, "Do not curse the king even in your thought: Do not curse the rich even in  your bedroom:  For a bird of the air may carry your voice, And a bird in flight may tell the matter." When  you step out of your boundary and curse the king of king, and despise the rich and awesome one, reject his love and provision, you must then be ready for the consequences and repercussion of your actions.  There will be no serenity in this world until the righteous judge passes through our land. Isaiah 26:9b says, "For when your judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the earth will learn righteousness." Also, Prophet Isaiah further says, "But the Lord of hosts shall be exalted in judgment. And the God who is holy shall be hallowed in righteousness" (Isaiah 5:16).We all know that repetition is for emphasis, Prophet Isaiah says again, "For behold, the LORD comes out of His place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity; The earth will also disclose her blood, And will no more cover her slain." Prophet Joel also declares in Joel 1:15, "Alas, for the day of the LORD is at hand: It shall come as a desolation from the Almighty."  In the new testament, Apostle Paul in his letter to the Romans declares, " For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness" (Romans 1:18).  Yet, there are many who do not fear at all or dread the judgment of God despite His repeated warnings.

And that's why Isaiah says, "Let grace be shown to the wicked, Yet he will not learn righteousness; In the land of uprightness he will deal unjustly, And will not behold the majesty of the Lord" (Isaiah 26:10). Recent events are serious indicators of the wrath of God revealed and unleashed on unrepentant nations. For instance, the eclipse of the sun (Amos 5:8, 8:9) preceded hurricanes, heavy rainfall, tornadoes, floods in multiple places, wildfires, earthquakes, landslides and so on which are all resultant effects of lawlessness and famine of the word (Amos 8:11-12). Nonetheless, God is still seeking to get attention of these rebellious nations who would not turn to their maker wholeheartedly nor seek after their God. The bible was truly right when it says that the way of a sinner is hard! No true comfort, satisfaction or joy outside Christ. No wonder the bible says in Isaiah 24, "The land shall be entirely emptied and utterly plundered, For the LORD has spoken this word." The judgment of God will be fierce and terrible!

The church of God is also unbelievably affected. All forms of pollution, contamination, defilement, oppression, and satanic oppositions going on calls for swift judgment of the Almighty God (Psalm 79:1-5). The sins of the so called priests, prophets and princes are enormous and cannot be overlooked by God (Ezekiel 22:26-31). Besides, varying degrees of atrocities and terrible occurrences on daily basis, unimaginable and horrible things going on now in our world are sure indices. It is sad to note that in some places the righteous are being unjustly treated and unlawfully punished. Therefore, for the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy and defenseless, God must pass through the land, vindicate His children, release glory, honor and peace to everyone who works what is good (Romans 2:10). He must certainly pass through our land because the evil is just too much. No wonder Amos declares, "In all the vineyards there shall be wailing, For I will pass through you says the Lord (Amos 5:17). God is the true judge who will not take side with the evil doer, and we know that there is no partiality with God (Romans 2:11). To those who do not obey the truth but are evil, the bible gave the verdict-indignation, wrath, tribulation and anguish (Romans 2:8-9). If God did not spare the first world but destroyed it and its inhabitants with flood, Sodom and Gomorrah were also destroyed by fire, the nation of Israel, God's own covenant people were repeatedly judged by God for their sin of idolatry and the bible has the record, I fear this present world will not be spared (Joel 2:11).

Why is judgment coming ? 

The reasons are not far fetched,

• The earth is also defiled under its inhabitants. Because they have transgressed the laws, changed the everlasting covenant (Isaiah 24:5).
• They provoked Him to jealousy with foreign gods. With abominations they provoked Him to anger (Deuteronomy 31:16). Intense idolatry, witchcraft, occultism and the like God detests. Deuteronomy 29:25-26, 30:17-18, 31:16-17, 2 Chronicles 33:5-6, 10-12, Ezekiel 23:49. Inviting evil powers, seeking empowerment by them and using demonic powers to govern and rule God's people is evil and calls for divine judgment.
• They hate one who rebukes in the gate, And they abhor one who speaks righteously. For I know your manifold transgressions and your mighty sins. Afflicting the just and taking bribes, Diverting the poor from justice at the gate (Amos 5:10, 12).
• Here are those who rebel against the light; They do not know its ways nor abide in its path (Job 24:13).
• That this is a rebellious people, Lying children who will not hear the law of the LORD, Who say to the seers, Do not see, And to the prophets, Do not prophesy to us right things; Speak to us smooth things, prophesy deceits (Isaiah 30:9-10).
• They push the needy off the road; All the poor of the land are forced to hide (Job 24:4).
• Woe to him who builds his house by unrighteousness. And his chambers by injustices, Who uses his neighbor's service without wages (Jeremiah 22:13).
• For the day of the LORD shall come upon everything proud and lofty. Upon everything lifted up-and it shall be brought low (Isaiah 2:12).

The list goes on. For these and other unlisted reasons, God is justified to judge the nations of the earth. In order to avert God's wrath and judgment, there must be deliberate desire to turn to God and follow His escape route.

Solutions

-Repentance is a must, it is indeed a necessity for individual and for the nations. It has to be thorough and genuine-2 Corinthians 7:10 "For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted, but the sorrow of the world produces death." 

-Renouncing idol worship, evil covenants, occultism, witchcraft, and every other demonic power and forces. Divine instructions has been given against idolatry. To have peace and rest, take away all evil altars.

-Rededication of the land and the people back to God. The book of  2 Chronicles 15:8-12 shows a pattern to follow. Also, in 2 Chronicles 29:34b, the priests were too few and some were indignant and indifference, however, the Levites were diligent. If you are not consecrated these last days, you will not be able to offer an acceptable service to God.

-Realignment-In 2 Chronicles 27:6, "So Jotham became mighty, because he prepared his ways before the Lord his God. True greatness, riches and blessings comes only from God (1 Samuel 2:7, Luke 1:49-52). Individual lives and nations must be aligned to God's purpose, counsel and plans. There is no need to try to hide or fix it. Let's give it back to God for in Him lies our help and strength!
